Cefotaxime

Cefotaxime is a broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to cell death. It is highly effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and is commonly used in hospital settings for serious, systemic infections.

Dosage by Body Weight

Cefotaxime is administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM). The dosage must be tailored to the severity of the infection, susceptibility of the causative organism, and the patient's age, body weight, and renal function. Pediatric dosing is typically calculated based on 50 to 180 mg/kg of body weight per day, divided into 3 to 4 equal doses.

    50 mg/kg per dose
